Name: PJ Kinevane
Date: Friday 31st July 2009
Location: Adare Village, Co Limerick
When did you start to organise this event: 3 weeks prior to the date
Did you advertise, if so how, where: Small notice in the Adare community newsletter.
What materials did you use: Banner, Posters, Balloons, Tshirts, Buckets and Stickers.
Where did you put up your posters etc: I didn’t put up posters until the day itself. I got the posters laminated and put them up around the village.
From 11am until 8pm, 8 of us stood on the streets, at traffic lights and roundabouts of Adare Village collecting money in buckets for the Niall Mellon Township Trust. The traffic was very busy going through Adare given that it was the Friday of the August Bank Holiday weekend and the response we got from both locals and tourists was very positive and hugely encouraging. One car that stopped to have a chat and most importantly contribute, was none other than Pat Kenny and his wife Kathy who were very generous and spoke very kindly of the charity and the work that we were doing.
My friends, neighbours and family who volunteered with me on the day were marvelous in engaging with people and I hate to say it but the ladies win hands down when it comes to getting money out of people!
At 8pm we finished, tired but happy, having met and conversed with many interesting people, raised awareness about the charity and collected what seemed like a lot of funds for The Niall Mellon Township Trust.
A huge thank you to the 7 volunteers who helped me on the day. It would never have been so successful if it wasn’t for them.
A total of €4,500 was raised on the day – a fantastic result all round.
