Rugby Legends and Spandau Ballet

Last night the City Grill restaurant at the V&A Waterfront hosted an evening with Jake White (former Springbok Rugby coach). They auctioned off some amazing items with all the proceeds going to Mellon Housing Initiative.
Jake White is a rugby union coach and former coach of the South Africa national rugby union team, the Springboks. His most notable achievements as coach include leading the Springboks to victory in 2007 Rugby World Cup and the 2004 Tri Nations title. White also coached the u-21 Springbok side to victory in the U-21 Rugby Union World Cup in 2002

It was a great evening, full of familiar faces joining Jake White, such as Chester Williams, Conrad Jaitjies, to name but a few. Mellon Housing representatives were present on the evening to chat to the guests about the charity and sign up a few volunteers! We certainly hope we will rope in those familiar faces on one of our Day Builds in the very near future!

Jake’s speech was like a behind the scenes look of the rugby world - full of funny anecdotes and inside stories of the locker rooms pre and post match. He spoke about when the Springboks played Ireland in Bloemfontein and how he told his guys to watch out for Stringer and O’Gara!!

And to top the night off, Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet was in the area, so we seized the opportunity to tell him about the charity! Watch this space!!

Mellon Housing would like to thank The City Grill for a great evening and their continued support, and to thank everyone who attended the evening.
