Blooming great job! Niall Mellon Township Trust wins the Silver Gilt medal at Bloom Gardening Competition 2009 Ireland's largest gardening and lifestyle event which took place from May 28th - June 1st in the Phoenix Park. The Niall Mellon Township Trust won a silver guilt medal for its colourful outdoor garden portrayal of life for people living in a shack in a township in South Africa.

The garden was created and built by Dominic Loughran, Director of Operations, who worked with two of the charities longstanding Volunteers, husband and wife team Janet Duff and Albert McQuillan.

The garden displayed wonderful grasses, palm trees and indigenous flowers of South Africa. The careful and impactful inclusion of two small shacks, added a realistic and poignant acknowledgement of what life is like for millions of families who have to live in shacks in the many townships across South Africa.
