Ignatius Flannery is a regular volunteer with the Niall Mellon Township Trust. This year will be his seventh year travelling. He has been accompanied in the past by his daughters Fiona, Deirdre and his granddaughter Katie. When he first decided to travel his wife Maura was the driving force behind his fundraising. Maura passed away in 2006. She was a well established artist in her native Galway and was acclaimed nationally, having won many awards and taken part in many exhibitions around the country. She left behind a huge body of work of which her family are immensely proud. As part of the Flannery fundraising efforts Ignatius and the girls had cards printed of some of Maura’s work. They also sell prints of her paintings. Images of Galway scenes, abstract works and images of flowers and animals all feature on the cards.
