The inaugural Midlands Mini-Marathon took place on Monday 3rd August in the Park Hotel, Mullingar. Niall Mellon started the run and Athlete and Olympian Pauline Curley (native of Tullamore) led the runners out, all in aid of the Niall Mellon Township Trust. The Westmeath Volunteer Club of the Niall Mellon Township Trust had organised the tremendously successful 5 mile fun run and over 150 people participated from the Westmeath area. The purpose of the Mini-Marathon was to raise funds for Volunteers in the Midlands that are going on the Niall Mellon Township Trust’s next Building Blitz to Wallacedene in Cape Town, South Africa this November.
