Mount Mercy College - Gap Year Volunteering
Posted by Eimear Murphy on 07 Feb 11
We went to visit Mount Mercy College in Cork last Friday to talk to a class of 22 very excited transition year school students. There will be six lucky students volunteering overseas with us as well as 2 teachers in November on our Building Blitz. The students have fundraised a total €5,500, which is amazing so early in the Year. They are having a Mac hamper raffle shortly and are also having a flag day in Cork City where they will be selling hard hat pins for the week. There will be a NMTT awareness week from 14th-18th February which they are going to built a shack in the hall of the school. It was great to see our fundraising posters on the walls of the classroom along with a fundraising barometer which they have created to track keep track of each fundraising milestone they reach.
We are really excited to have the girls going with us to South Africa and already know they will be a great asset to any team. Thank you to Francis Hurley (volunteer) for coming along to speak to the girls about his volunteering experience. We will be keeping track of the girls throughout the year to offer support and encouragement.
