Pictured at a Presentation in the charity's office, Wednesday 26th August, was Dominic Loughran, Director of Operations with the charity, Paul Traynor, Veteran Volunteer and competition winner, Annemarie Leonard, Houghton Mifflin, internal staff member who has also won a sponsored slot and Ciara Dowling, Houghton Mifflin.
The largest Irish educational solutions provider, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt with offices in Tara Street, Dublin, were generous sponsors of a prize to win a place on the charities November 2009 Building Blitz. The charity will be bringing over 1,000 Volunteers to Wallacedene in Cape Town, from 6th-13th of November for their 8th Building Blitz.
Houghton Mifflin wanted to sponsor a Volunteer who had been on the trip two or more times and in particular a tradesperson. Chosen from hundreds of entries, Paul Traynor, Clontarf, a seven year Veteran Volunteer of the Building Blitz was the lucky and much deserved recipient.
Houghton Mifflin has also sponsored a competition among their staff members to participate in the Building Blitz. Annemarie Leonard won because of her written submission on why she wanted to go on the trip. We look forward to welcoming Annemarie to Cape Town in a few months for her first Building Blitz.
“With a long-standing commitment to creating educational opportunities, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is proud to again partner with the Niall Mellon Township Trust," said Office Manager Ciara Dowling. "We are particularly pleased to sponsor two people to work on-site in South Africa, making a difference not only in their lives, but more importantly, in the lives of children who have little or nothing."
The company has also donated books to the value of €100,000 to local schools in South Africa.
