Crèche Donations: Building Blitz 2010
Posted by Natasha McKrieling on 19 Apr 11

During the 2010 blitz in Wallacedene, volunteers had the chance to donate either cash or donations to a crèche in the Wallacedene area. After donations were collected each of the 8 crèches and another 5 in the Wallacedene area benefited from the generous donations that the Irish volunteers gave. A needs assessment of each of the crèches was done and with the donations these needs where fulfilled. Each and every crèche was visited by our Social Development Department to make sure that the children’s needs were put first.
The donations included a carport for the kids, installing a new ceiling, floor covering, mattresses, tables and chairs, educational toys, plates and cups, stationery, clothes, kiddies draws etc. Each child also had a new Christmas outfit to take home.
The needs of all the crèches were met and the expression on the children’s little faces was thanks enough. The 2010 Christmas for these underprivileged children of Wallacedene couldn’t have been any better.
A week after the blitz the donations were delivered and principals and teachers could not keep away the tears. The children immediately chose their toy and started playing. All crèches received mattresses, chairs and tables.
Each child also received their own toy and colour in book and pencils. It was a great pleasure to at least make a difference to almost 1,000 children in the year 2010. Thanks to our Irish Volunteers.
