They say Africa gets into your blood it certainly did for me. I feel so at home when I work in the Townships. Working my week of the Blitz is one of the highlights of the year for me.

7 years, 8 trips, 1700000 kilometers, what an adventure.

"Backtrack November 2002. I certainly did not know what I was getting into. It sounded like an exciting experience I was told it would "change my life". This was no exaggeration. My first experience of Africa in the Township of Imizamo Yetu was almost spiritual. I had never had such a feeling of emotional closeness and connection with fellow workers, male and female. We were all instinctively working for the common goal of "a few houses for the poor of South Africa.” Little did we realise at the time we were to be part of creating the single biggest charity providing social housing in SA.

The whole experience changed a lot of the way I thought about life, seeing the poverty in the Townships put my whole attitude to living in perspective, for the better. They say Africa gets into your blood it certainly did for me. I feel so at home when I work in the Townships. Working my week of the Blitz is one of the highlights of the year for me.

I have never regretted for one moment being involved with this wonderful project. “If I had the chance to do it all again, would I? Could I? You bet!"
