Brizelda Adams's Story

Trainee

I learned a lot and the training is definitely going to help me! I will have more employment opportunities and can provide a better future for my family.

Brizelda lives in Amstelhof, Paarl. She is a divorcee with 2 children and lives together with her mom and her 2 siblings. Brizelda completed grade 11 at school and has since worked for Educare in Paarl (an educational facility for children). Walking past one of the charity’s building sites she noticed a group of people painting the newly built houses. She enquired about the possibility of working for the charity and within days she found herself employed, with a paint brush in her hand!

During September 2009 Brizelda or ‘Zelda’ as she is known on site, was enrolled in one of the painting training courses taking place in Paarl. The course focuses on various aspects of painting and also includes a life skills component. Zelda with 11 other women completed the program and received their certification in October this year. Brizelda thoroughly enjoyed the course and hopes to undergo further training in the future. She feels that having a nationally accredited qualification has given her a real sense of empowerment.
