Mizen Abseil

On Sunday the 27th July at 3.30pm there was a most unusual fundraising event taking place at Mizen Head, Co. Cork.

We have five volunteers from the tiny village of Goleen which is just minutes away from the spectacular Mizen Head. Our volunteers are Richie Barry, Paul Flatman, Pat Reidy, Michael Barry and Brian O'Sullivan. Paul Flatman and Richie Barry’s son Kevin took to the cliffs kindly supported by members of the Coast Guard and of course the other volunteers and their families and friends.

There was a great atmosphere at this event and lots of people gathered around to watch these brave men take on what looked like an impossible task. People had to guess the time of the descent and the climb back up and place a bet and this is how our volunteers were raising the money on the day.

As a spectator and someone who is extremely afraid of heights, I was in awe of these men and it was a most exciting and unusual fundraiser. My heartiest congratulations to all our volunteers from Goleen and a huge thank you to all who supported them.
