Rain Free Day

Posted by Robert Jones – Orange Team on 12 Nov 09

Another day and no rain, at least when we set off for work there was not. Back to hanging doors. Seven more and or task was completed. That is of course if we had seven, we were short one, but the foreman promised he would find us one somewhere. As the day developed the beneficiaries began to come to see their newly completed homes. Just to watch these people touch the bath in the bathroom and stand with faces of amazement is something to behold. These are humble people, who have their dignity and their pride. Yet, nothing to the pride they will feel next week as they move into their houses.

This is what it is all about. This is why we are here – to give these people dignity. The weather remained dry and at times sunny. It was a great day and everyone was looking forward to the team night out. Thanks to Rosie and Maureen, we had a great evening. African food and music and song.  As PJ said in his thank you speech, this was a special team, who had the crack, but who worked extremely hard to make sure the task was completed. It would be wrong to name people as everyone played their part. I know that I will return much better for the experience and hoping that I can do this for a fourth time. Tomorrow we finish, by handing over an official house and tidying up the site.
