Flying is definitely not my favourite thing, but half a xanax later and everything was wonderful flying into Heathrow. I took the other half just before boarding for Cape Town and I was asleep before it even took off! I found Pierce Brosnan on the plane when I woke up and his beautiful face passed a couple of hours, as I watched Mamma Mia. It was difficult to stay seated as the music had me itching to get up and dance. Eventually there was a little demonstration going on in the aisles and I was talked into teaching some poor man how to do a shimmie. Back in Mullingar I did laugh before I left saying I’d never manage to sit still for the whole flight.
Niall Mellon was there to greet everyone of us on arrival. The heat at 6am was unreal. I can only imagine how hot it will be by midday and that’s what we’ll be working in. Already it feels like one big huge family as everyone is talking to everyone! It helps that we all wore the same polo shirts as we can identify who is on the trip easily.
We all meet up later in the Arches for our induction and work starts tomorrow at 8am. I’ve somehow managed to do the one thing we were warned not to do and I’ve brushed my teeth using tap water. Ooops! Hopefully it won’t matter.
I was lucky enough to meet up with a few guys who didn't’t mind adopting me for the afternoon. We got to see a few of the local shops before going to our induction. I was honored to sit and listen to Archbishop Tutu speak, who told us he’s not as young as he looks! I think everyone felt that huge sense of respect for him. What an amazing mane. Really looking forward to gardening tomorrow.
