Today I’m not going to tell you about every member of the maroon team moving into overdrive to make sure all our houses are ready on time.
I’m not going to tell you about James and his roofers being the best guys to put a roof on a house you will ever see. I’m not going to tell you about our fabulous painting crew. The girls are making a wonderful job of all our houses and I’m not even going to mention our new pointer sisters, Angie, Breda and Helen who must be seeing stone walls in their sleep by now.
No. Today I’m going to let you know of a truly remarkable lady named Miriam Toni. Miriam is 39 and runs an orphanage just 5 minutes from our site. The building is 3 connected galvanized shacks. It houses 25 children during the week and up to 45 at the weekend as many former residents return to visit this special lady such is her appeal to the children.
Miriam has a daily rota for the children as they don’t go to mainstream education. She teaches them to make clothes and jewellery to sell.
They have their own soccer team which is very successful. The orphanage is totally dependent on donations and the small childrens allowance given to Miriam for each full time child she houses.
When a blitz comes to town Miriam will always have a list of items badly needed for the orphanage. The Microwave oven is yours, from all the maroon team.
